"The Elements of Enjoyment" January 6 - February 2, 2012
The Akron Woman's City Club (732 W. Exchange St., Akron 44302) is the venue for my first Solo Exhibition: "The Elements of Enjoyment". The show was displayed in the warm, comfortable room called "Gallery 732". A big "Thank You!" to Carol Schrecengost, Sue Williams, Carol Pagel and everyone who helped make this show a success. I'm grateful for all the care and attention that the Club's Exhibition Committee gave to promoting the exhibit and all the arrangements they made. Good luck in 2012!
A brief tour of the show:
This large, functional sculpture is number one on the list of pieces in the show (there are 80 - many of them sets!). The Autumn Pumpkin Teapot holds 6 cups and is completely food safe, although I recommend hand washing. The rich, warm, inviting colors relate directly to the fragrant beverage that can be brewed within.
The pumpkin teapots in this exhibit are examples of a new direction for these handbuilt forms. The bottoms of the teapots are no longer flat with an added foot ring. The bulbous form of the pumpkin now continues all the way down and around the pot. My stamp (my name spelled in Japanese) is used on the bottom of the pot where in nature, the fruit was once a flower.
